How we present ourselves online
Social media has changed the way people talk and show themselves online compared to real life. People often present themselves by only showing the good parts of their day, while not showing how they really live.
How we present other people can also vary from real life to social media. We can choose what to comment, post, and share about them. It is easier to promote people online and make them feel good about themselves.
How I present myself online can affect how others think about me too. If I am only positive online, but a negative person in real life, it can give mixed signals to people.
Communication online is different from face-to-face communication because we cannot always understand tone, emotions, or body language. This can easily lead to misunderstandings. Emojis, memes, and abbreviations are often used to replace facial expressions and tone in digital conversations.
In conclusion, digital communication gives people many opportunities to show themselves and others, both in a positive and a negative way. If you show yourself differently online compared to real life, it can give mixed signals to people.
Example film
A person posts on Instagram that he is okay, but in real life he is not. The film shows the difference between what he presents online and how he actually feels in real life.
